Senior guard Jared Hamilton led a balanced scoring effort with a career-high 18 points in Boston College's 74-55 victory over winless Central Connecticut in a nonconference game Sunday in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Steffon Mitchell added 13 points and 12 rebounds, Jay Heath finished with 16 points and former Duke and USC player Derryck Thornton had 12.

Greg Outlaw led Central Connecticut with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Trey Tennyson finished with 10 points.

Boston College (7-5) has won three straight games, including a win at Notre Dame on Dec. 7, after losing four consecutive games and five of six. The Eagles next play Saturday against California in San Francisco.

Central Connecticut is 0-10 with its next game at Dartmouth on Wednesday.

An 11-0 run put Boston College ahead 15-7 with 13:16 left in the first half, and the Eagles kept the lead the rest of the way.

Both teams finished the half cold with Boston College scoring only a free throw in the last 3 minutes, by Heath with 1:38 remaining, giving the Eagles their biggest lead at that point, 35-20.

The Blue Devils had only one field goal in the last five minutes of the half, a 3-pointer by Outlaw with 19 seconds left, to cut Boston College's halftime lead to 35-23.

Boston College started the second half by outscoring Central Connecticut 17-3 to take a 52-26 lead. The Eagles made eight of their first 12 attempts from the field in the half.

The Eagles led by as many as 28 points before Central Connecticut scored 12 unanswered points to cut the lead to 56-40 with 11:57 remaining.

The Blue Devils, beset by 23 turnovers in the game, would not get closer. Boston College had a 40-31 rebounding edge and had 11 second-chance points, compared to only two for Central Connecticut.
