Al Durham had 18 points and Justin Smith added 16 as Indiana dominated in the paint en route to an 85-74 win over Portland State on Saturday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind.

The Hoosiers (2-0) scored 52 points in the paint, shooting 58.7 percent on two-pointers and making 22 of 30 free throws as they mostly solved Portland State's pressure defense. Indiana turned it over just 10 times, a far cry from the 31 turnovers the Vikings (1-1) forced in their season-opening win over Division III Puget Sound.

Durham and Smith, both juniors, combined to make 13 of 19 two-pointers while freshman guard Trayce Jackson-Davis had 13 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.

Indiana used a 10-2 run early in the second half to extend a 10-point halftime lead to 16 at 53-37, getting all five baskets in the paint, and looked to be pulling away. Portland State quickly got back into it thanks to the perimeter shooting of junior guard Holland "Boo Boo" Woods, who drained four 3-pointers in a span of 3:25 to get the Vikings within 58-51 with 12:22 to go.

But a technical foul on Portland State senior forward Alonzo Walker -- who played only four minutes in the first half because of three early fouls -- with 11:13 left swung the momentum back in Indiana's favor. Durham made the two technical free throws, then on the ensuing possession he completed a three-point play to put the Hoosiers up 64-53 with 10:55 to go.

Indiana went to the paint early and often to open the game, many of its baskets coming in transition after breaking Portland State's press. The Hoosiers scored 20 of their first 26 points in the paint and didn't hit a 3-pointer until redshirt freshman forward Jerome Hunter drained one with 3:11 left in the first half.

Woods finished with 27 points for Portland State, while senior guard Matt Hauser added 21.
