Naji Marshall hit Xavier's only two field goals of overtime Wednesday night, but they were enough to enable the Musketeers to outlast visiting Creighton for a 64-61 win in Big East Conference men's basketball victory in Cincinnati.

The win allowed the Musketeers (12-13, 4-8 Big East) to avenge a 76-54 shellacking at Creighton earlier this month.

The Bluejays (13-12, 4-8) took a 61-59 lead in the first minute of the extra session on a layup by Kaleb Joseph.

But Creighton didn't score again, missing its final five shots, including four 3-pointers.

Meanwhile, after a Quentin Goodin free throw cut the Xavier deficit to one, Marshall gave the hosts the lead for good with a jumper with 2:54 to go.

Marshall then provided the winning margin with another jumper with 44 seconds left, setting up a frantic finish in which the Bluejays took three cracks at a potential game-tying 3-pointer, but misfired on all three.

The Bluejays appeared headed to victory in regulation after late 3-pointers by Ty-Shon Alexander, Martin Krampelj and Davion Mintz helped produce a 59-57 lead with 25 seconds left.

But Creighton had trouble inbounding the ball, and Goodin converted a steal into a layup to produce a 59-all tie with 21 seconds remaining.

Mintz's attempt at a game-winning 3-pointer was off the mark with three seconds remaining, sending the game to overtime.

Marshall led all scorers in the game with 23 points, connecting on 5 of 11 3-point attempts. He also found time for seven rebounds and five assists.

Tyrique Jones had 12 points and Zach Hankins 10 for the Musketeers, who had lost six in a row, including three straight at home.

Krampelj, who had 23 points in the earlier win over Xavier, totaled 18 this time around to go with nine rebounds.

Joseph had 11 points, while Alexander chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds for the Bluejays, who lost their third straight.

Creighton held Xavier without a field goal for the first 5:27 of the second half to erase a six-point halftime deficit and tie the score at 37-all.

Consecutive layups by Joseph gave the Bluejays a 48-44 lead with 8:38 to go, but Marshall's 3-pointer with 5:39 remaining put the Musketeers back on top 51-50, setting up the tight finish.

Xavier used 50 percent shooting in the first half to build as much as an eight-point lead en route to a 36-30 advantage at the break.

Jones had 10 of his 12 points in the half, hitting five of his first six shots.
