Andrew White and Tyler Lydon combined for 42 points on Wednesday night as Syracuse defeated a Power Five team for the first time this season with a 70-55 victory over Miami in an Atlantic Coast Conference game before 17,393 fans at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Orange (9-6, 1-1 ACC) had been 8-0 against low- and mid-major teams and 0-6 against Power Five and Big East teams. White (game-high 22 points) and Lydon (20) made a combined 14 of 26 shots from the floor and 6 of 12 from beyond the arc.

White grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Syracuse snapped Miami's seven-game winning streak and denied Hurricanes coach Jim Larranaga his 600th career win.

Miami (11-3, 1-1) lost despite connecting on 11 of 26 3-pointers. The Hurricanes had been 23-3 in the past two seasons when hitting seven or more treys.

VJ Vasiljevic was 6 of 12 from 3-point range and led the Hurricanes with 18 points. Bruce Brown added nine points and a team-best seven rebounds.

Trailing 40-30 early in the second half, the Hurricanes closed the gap with a 12-3 run that included two 3-pointers by Vasiljevic and one by Brown. The Orange answered with a 9-0 spurt highlighted by White's back-to-back 3-pointers, the second of which boosted Syracuse's lead to 52-42.

Vasiljevic followed with his sixth trey of the game, but Lydon took over by scoring Syracuse's next nine points to help the Orange increase their lead to 61-47.

Syracuse closed the first half on a 17-5 run for a 34-26 lead at the break. Lydon and White ignited the run with back-to-back 3-pointers, and the Orange limited Miami to one field goal -- Vasiljevic's third 3-pointer of the half -- in a nine-minute stretch as Syracuse erased a 21-17 deficit.

While the Orange shot 60 percent from the field in the first half (12 for 20), the Hurricanes stayed close by sinking 6 of 14 shots from beyond the arc. White continued his season-long trend of hot first halves as he netted 13 points and seven rebounds.
