Melo Trimble scored 21 points, Dion Wiley added 13 off the bench, and the Maryland pulled away in the second half for a 77-63 win over Stony Brook on Tuesday night at Xfinity Center in Landover, Md.

Reserve Michal Cekovsky added 11 points for the Terrapins (5-0), who got 33 points from their bench, compared to 21 for the Seawolves.

Lucas Woodhouse led Stony Brook (0-3) with 14 points. Akwasi Yeboah added 12 points, and Tyrell Sturdivant had nine points and 10 rebounds.

The Seawolves pulled within 41-34 on Yeboah's 3-pointer with 18:34 left to play but got no closer. The Terrapins soon increased the lead to double digits.

Stony Brook trailed by 10 points with 10:45 left, but the Maryland defense and poor shooting resulted in the Seawolves going over eight minutes without a field goal down the stretch.

Maryland shot 47.9 percent (23 of 48) from the field, including 40 percent (8 of 20) from 3-point range, while Stony Brook managed just 34 percent (22 of 64) overall and 12.5 percent (3 of 24) beyond the arc.

Stony Brook outrebounded the Terrapins 37-31.

After needing a late rally to defeat Towson two days earlier, the Terrapins took control early against the Seawolves. Maryland shot 52 percent (11 of 21) from the field -- include 4 of 8 from 3-point range -- over the first 20 minutes Tuesday night.

Trimble scored 13 points in the half and the Terrapins led by as many as 14 points before settling for a 38-27 lead at intermission.

Maryland plays its first game outside the Maryland-Washington, D.C., area on Friday when it meets Richmond at the Barclays Classic in Brooklyn. Stony Brook plays at Towson on Friday.
