Fueled by Khadeen Carrington's 27 points, Seton Hall won its season-opener over Fairleigh Dickinson 91-70 Friday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Carrington, a junior guard and the Pirates' leading returning scorer, hit five 3-pointers and went 9-for-14 from the field. Seton Hall (1-0) also got double-doubles from junior forwards Angel Delgado and Desi Rodriguez. Delgado scored 22 points and had 14 boards while Rodriguez had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Seton Hall hit half of its 16 3-point attempts and shot 61.4 percent from the field. The Pirates also held a large rebounding advantage (43-31) over the Knights (0-1).

Junior guard Darian Anderson led Fairleigh Dickinson with 27 points, going 11-for-17 from the field. Sophomore guard Darnell Edge added 11 points in the loss.

Fairleigh Dickinson shot 39.3 percent from the field and hit 13 of its 16 free throw attempts. The Knights went 18-15 last season and won the NEC Tournament to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 11 years.

Seton Hall never trailed in the game and pulled away in the second half after leading 33-28 at halftime.

The Pirates are coming off a 25-9 season which saw them win the Big East Tournament. As a No. 6 seed, they were ousted in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Gonzaga.

Seton Hall lost 2015-16 leading scorer Isaiah Whitehead to the NBA Draft, but the team returns three of its four leading scorers from last season in Carrington (14.1 ppg), Rodriguez (12.4) and Delgado (9.9).

Friday marked the sixth straight season the Pirates won their season opener, and it marked the beginning of coach Kevin Willard's seventh season at the helm.

Seton Hall hosts Central Connecticut State on Sunday. The team's schedule will toughen in the following weeks with games against Iowa (Nov. 17) and Florida (Nov. 24).
