Freshman forward Schnider Herard scored a career-high 16 points, and sophomore guard Quinndary Weatherspoon hits some big shots late to lift Mississippi State to a 67-59 win over visiting Texas A&M on Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss.

Weatherspoon finished with 13 points, including a 3-pointer that gave the Bulldogs a 57-53 lead with 4:24 left in the game. The Bulldogs (12-4, 3-1 SEC) have won three in a row and five of six.

Herard, whose previous career high was eight points, followed with a layup, and a pair of free throws from freshman guard Lamar Peters put Mississippi State up six with two minutes to play.

Texas A&M missed its first 11 3-pointers before junior center Tonny Trocha-Morelos drilled one from the top of the key to bring the Aggies within two at 61-59 with 59.7 seconds to play.

Weatherspoon had a breakaway dunk late to put away Texas A&M.

The Aggies (9-7, 1-4 SEC) have lost four of five and saw standout sophomore forward D.J. Hogg leave the game late after an awkward landing. Tyler Davis scored 16 points and Hogg finished with 13 to lead Texas A&M.

Peters finished with 14 points, highlighted by an 11-for-11 performance from the foul line, and helped spark the Bulldogs, who got off to a dismal start to the game.

Texas A&M raced out a 10-0 lead. Mississippi State missed its first eight field goals and didn't score until Peters hit three consecutive free throws with 12:25 left in the first half. It was the start of an 11-0 run for the Bulldogs, who despite a 3-for-14 shooting start, led for a long stretch of the first half.

Herard made a tip-in as time expired in the first half to send the Bulldogs into halftime leading 25-24.

Mississippi State hosts No. 6 Kentucky on Tuesday. Texas A&M hosts Arkansas on Tuesday.
