Freshman forward Ivan Rabb scored a season-high 20 points and added eight rebounds and six assists, and California overcame the absence of leading scorer Tyrone Wallace to register a 75-70 victory over Arizona State on Thursday night in Pac-12 play at Berkeley, Calif.

Freshman forward Jaylen Brown added 17 points for the Golden Bears, who halted a three-game losing streak and improved to 12-0 at home. Sophomore center Kingsley Okoroh blocked four shots as Cal (13-6, 3-3) prevailed despite being without Wallace, the senior guard who broke his right hand in practice Saturday and will be sidelined four to six weeks.

Junior forward Obinna Oleka scored 14 points and junior forward Savon Goodman added 13 for the Sun Devils, who lost for the fifth time in six games. Junior guard Andre Spight scored 12 points and senior forward Eric Jacobsen had 10.

The Sun Devils (11-8, 1-5) recovered from a 14-point, second-half deficit to tie the score at 65 on two free throws by Jacobsen with 2:25 remaining. Arizona State was attempting to tie the score again over a minute later when Okoroh rejected Sun Devils sophomore guard Kodi Justice to begin a fastbreak, and Brown's basket gave Cal a 69-65 advantage with 1:02 to play.

However, Arizona State wasn't done. Senior guard Gerry Blakes drained a corner 3-pointer with 33.9 seconds left to make it a one-point game. The margin was three after Cal junior guard Jordan Mathews hit two free throws with 18.5 seconds left, but Sun Devils sophomore guard Tra Holder missed a 3-point attempt with 11 seconds remaining.

Cal junior guard Jabari Bird made two clinching free throws with 5.7 seconds to play.

The Golden Bears held a comfortable 54-40 lead after two free throws by Mathews with 12:53 left. Arizona State immediately got to work and cut its deficit in half on a four-point play by Spight and a 3-pointer by Justice.

Cal responded with the next five points to push the advantage to 59-47 before missing its next five field-goal attempts. The Sun Devils took advantage of the drought and ripped off 10 straight points to move within 59-57 on Goodman's layup with 8:01 remaining.

Arizona State trailed 20-18 after a jumper by Holder before Cal rattled off the next eight points for a 10-point lead. Rabb had 12 first-half points on 6-of-8 shooting as the Golden Bears led 38-30 at the break.
