Forward Brice Johnson continued his string of high-scoring games with 22 points as No. 7 North Carolina upended visiting Appalachian State 94-70 on Monday night at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Guard Joel Berry provided 11 points and 11 assists for North Carolina (10-2), which won for the third time in six days. Forward Isaiah Hicks and forward Justin Jackson each added 12 points.

North Carolina eclipsed the 90-point mark for the fifth time this season.

Appalachian State guard Ronshad Shabazz had 18 first-half points to match his season high for an entire game. He finished with 21 points for the Mountaineers (2-9).

The Tar Heels scored 13 consecutive points in the opening four minutes and held a double-digit lead for a large chunk of the first half.

An 11-3 run to begin the second half put the Tar Heels up 60-41 even though standout guard Marcus Paige departed with what was described as a stiff ankle.

Johnson, who led the Tar Heels in scoring for the third game in a row, made his first five shots from the field, extending his stretch of consecutive made field goals to 16. That tied a school record.

Guard Frank Eaves scored 13 points and forward Michael Obacha added 12 points for Appalachian State, which has lost six consecutive games.
