Center Cameron Ridley recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds as Texas outlasted Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 67-56 on Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, in the Longhorns' home opener.

Texas, in its second game under new coach Shaka Smart, still looked a bit jet-lagged after returning from its season-opening loss to Washington in Shanghai, China, on Nov. 14. The Longhorns had to wait until the final minutes to put away the Islanders, who play in the Southland Conference.

The Longhorns (1-1) got 12 points and nine rebounds from forward Connor Lammert while reserve guard Javan Felix added 12 points, all on 3-pointers.

Forward Bryce Douvier led A&M-Corpus Christi (1-2) with 14 points and nine rebounds and forward Rashawn Thomas hit for 11 points for the Islanders.

Texas shrugged off an early 8-4 deficit via a 14-2 run over a three-minute span that put it in charge 18-10 with 11:24 to play in the first half. The Longhorns shot 47 percent from the floor in the first half and led 37-28 at halftime. Ten of Texas' 11 players scored in the first 20 minutes with Ridley leading all scorers with seven points.

Corpus Christi hit only 10 of its 35 shots in the first half but stayed within reach thanks to nine second-chance points and 12 Texas turnovers.
