No. 25 San Diego State 67, UNLV 64: Aqeel Quinn scored 21 points, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, to help the second-seeded Aztecs survive a tough fight from the seventh-seeded Rebels in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West tournament in Las Vegas.

JJ O'Brien had 15 points, including 11 in the second half, for San Diego State (25-7), while Winston Shepard added 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Aztecs, who meet third-seeded Colorado State in Friday's semifinals, hit 50 percent from 3-point range to help make up for 18-of-28 shooting from the free-throw line.

Christian Wood had 21 points and eight rebounds to lead UNLV (18-15), which was 7-of-15 from the line. Jelan Kendrick had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Rebels, who also got 10 points from Cody Doolin.

The Rebels had the lead throughout the first half, shooting 54.5 percent from the field and scoring 18 points in the paint. Still, UNLV couldn't pull away, taking its biggest lead at seven with less than four minutes to play on Kendrick's jumper before settling for a six-point halftime advantage.

But the Aztecs were a different team in the second half, scoring the first 12 points after the break and taking their first lead of the game on O'Brien's 3-pointer three minutes into the stanza. The Rebels stayed close behind Wood's sterling play on the offensive end, but with the game tied at 49 with less than six minutes to go, San Diego State went on a 9-2 run to open up some breathing room and held off a furious UNLV comeback attempt.

GAME NOTEBOOK: UNLV led at halftime for the 15th straight game, but the Rebels fell to 8-7 in those contests. … Quinn's 21 points were one off his career high. … The Aztecs will take on third-seeded Colorado State or No. 6 seed Fresno State in Friday's semifinals.
