USC 68, Oregon State 55: Elijah Stewart scored 19 points and made a career-best five 3-pointers as the Trojans defeated the Beavers to halt a nine-game losing streak.

Katin Reinhardt added 16 points off the bench for USC (10-15, 2-11), which played without starting point guard Jordan McLaughlin (shoulder). Julian Jacobs added 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocked shots and two steals as the Trojans won for the first time since defeating California on Jan. 7.

Langston Morris-Walker scored 17 points and made four 3-pointers for Oregon State (16-9, 7-6), which lost its second straight game. Gary Payton II contributed 11 points, eight assists and matched a career best with six steals, Daniel Gomis had 10 points and nine rebounds and Malcolm Duvivier scored 10 points as the Beavers suffered their fourth consecutive road loss.

A three-point play by Jacobs gave USC a 47-38 advantage with 9:24 remaining and Stewart’s basket two-plus minutes later pushed the margin to 11. Duvivier’s 3-pointer pulled the Beavers within 59-51 with 4:56 to play before Nikola Jovanovic’s layup and Reinhardt’s two free throws pushed the margin back to 12 as USC closed strong.

Oregon State led most of the first half but only held a 28-26 lead at the break after the Trojans closed with a 6-2 run. USC started the second half with a 15-3 burst, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers by Stewart and Reinhardt, for a 10-point lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Trojans committed 23 turnovers but were helped by Oregon State’s 32.8 field-goal percentage. … Stewart had scored six total points over USC’s past seven games and missed all nine of his 3-point attempts. … Payton has at least one steal in 25 straight games, the fourth-best streak in school history.
