No. 15 Northern Iowa 69, Drake 53: Seth Tuttle scored 16 points as the Panthers tied a school record with their 11th straight Missouri Valley Conference victory.

Matt Bohannon went 5-for-5 from the field – including four 3-pointers – and finished with 14 points for Northern Iowa (22-2, 11-1 MVC), which shot 64.1 percent while matching the 2008-09 Panthers for the most consecutive wins in conference play. Paul Jesperson also added four triples for 12 points as Northern Iowa tied a season high with 11 3-pointers and completed its third sweep of a league opponent this season.

Freshman Reed Timmer tallied 10 points and was the only player in double figures for the Bulldogs (7-17, 4-8), who saw their season-high three-game winning streak halted. Leading scorer Gary Ricks Jr., who was held scoreless in Northern Iowa’s 64-40 victory on Jan. 10, had eight points and five assists for Drake.

Northern Iowa knocked down its first four field goals – including three 3-pointers – to fuel an early 11-0 burst and took a 36-20 advantage into the break following Bohannon’s fourth triple and Nate Buss’ dunk in the waning seconds. Tuttle came out strong after intermission, scoring six of the Panthers’ first eight points to fend off a trio of 3-pointers by Drake in the first 7 1/2 minutes of the second half.

Kory Kuenstling scored five straight points coming out of the second media timeout in the second half and C.J. Rivers added a bucket with 9 1/2 minutes left to trim the Bulldogs’ deficit to nine, but Northern Iowa quickly doubled the margin when Jesperson bookended Buss’ 3-pointer with two of his own. Ore Arogundade chipped away at the Panthers’ advantage with seven straight Drake points to get the Bulldogs within 13, but Tuttle answered with five straight to restore Northern Iowa’s 18-point margin.
