Purdue 60, No. 20 Ohio State 58: Rapheal Davis had 20 points and six rebounds as the host Boilermakers defeated the Buckeyes in Big Ten play.

A.J. Hammons blocked seven shots and had seven points and seven rebounds as Purdue (15-8, 7-3) halted a six-game losing streak against Ohio State. Jon Octeus added 14 points and seven rebounds and for the Boilermakers.

D’Angelo Russell had 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists but missed a 3-pointer as time expired for Ohio State (17-6, 6-4), which played without suspended forward Marc Loving. Amir Williams scored 10 points and Sam Thompson had nine points, four steals and three blocked shots as the Buckeyes had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Dakota Mathias knocked down a 3-pointer to give Purdue a 47-44 lead with 7:34 left and Davis added a layup, Octeus delivered a dunk and Hammons split two free throws for an eight-point advantage. Williams scored the Buckeyes’ first points in more than 5 1/2 minutes on a jump hook with 3:12 to play, Thompson scored five straight points to pull the Buckeyes within 55-51 with 1:31 left and a 3-pointer by Russell made it a two-point margin with 33 seconds to play.

Russell scored all the Ohio State points during an 8-2 run that gave the Buckeyes a 20-17 lead with 5:10 remaining in the first half, but Purdue answered with its own 8-2 spurt for a three-point advantage and settled for a 27-26 edge at the half. The Boilermakers opened the second half with a 9-2 burst to take an eight-point lead on Octeus’ layup with 17:28 left to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Davis is averaging 18.4 points and 5.6 rebounds over the past five games. … Loving was suspended indefinitely and the school announced his absence about an hour before tip-off. … Hammons has blocked four or more shots on eight occasions this season and had a season-best eight against Indiana on Jan. 28.
