No. 3 Arizona 60, UTEP 55: Stanley Johnson had 17 points, seven rebounds and a season-high four steals as the visiting Wildcats held off the Miners.

Gabe York added 13 points and T.J. McConnell finished with nine points, eight assists and three steals for Arizona (12-0) in its first true road game of the season. Brandon Ashley contributed 10 points and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson led the reserves with six points.

Vince Hunter had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead UTEP, but fouled out with 8:12 left and the Miners trailing by four. Omega Harris added 10 points off the bench as the only other player in double figures for UTEP (6-4).

UTEP used an 11-2 run to take its first lead at 40-38 with 12:01 left in the game. Even after Hunter fouled out the Miners didn’t fade, staying within 10 points but they couldn’t get any closer than four.

Arizona scored the game’s first seven points and led 15-2 before UTEP came alive and eventually tied the score at 21 with 3:19 left in the first half. Johnson’s 3-pointer at the end of the half gave the Wildcats a three-point lead and the game remained tight throughout the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Wildcats are the first team in college basketball with 12 wins. … Arizona went 21-0 with Ashley in the lineup last season and are 12-0 with him this season. … York, a junior SG, has reached double figures in scoring in four straight games for the first time in his career.
