No. 2 Arizona 86, Cal State Northridge 68: Stanley Johnson scored 17 points while Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 14 points and eight rebounds as the Wildcats cruised past the visiting Matadors.

Brandon Ashley added 13 points for Arizona (2-0), which had a 35-26 rebounding edge. Elliott Pitts scored 10 points off the bench.

Stephen Maxwell scored 19 points to pace Cal State Northridge (0-2). Aaron Parks chipped in 15 points and Tre Hale-Edmerson tallied 11 points.

The Matadors were within 14 points after a basket by Maxwell with 17:04 left before Arizona went on a 11-1 run to take a 55-31 lead on Hollis-Jefferson’s three-point play with 12:52 to play. A 3-pointer by Pitts made it 63-37 with 10:56 to go as the Wildcats remained in control.

Northridge trailed by four points after a dunk by Zacarry Douglas with 8:20 left in the first half before the Wildcats went on a 19-7 burst. A basket by Hollis-Jefferson capped the surge with one minute remaining and Arizona led 37-23 at the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Arizona G T.J. McConnell contributed seven points, eight assists and five rebounds. … The Matadors were 2-of-10 from 3-point range. … The Wildcats collected 11 steals while forcing 16 Northridge turnovers.
