Texas-El Paso 78, Tennessee 70: McKenzie Moore returned from a one-game absence and scored a season-high 19 points to power the Miners past the Volunteeers in the quarterfinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

John Bohannon scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half for UTEP (4-2), which will square off against No. 23 Iowa in a semifinal game on Friday. Julian Washburn and Justin Crosgile each chipped in 12 points as the Miners prevailed despite giving up 26 offensive rebounds.

Jordan McRae finished with 22 points to pace Tennessee (3-2), which will meet Xavier for the second time this month in a consolation game on Friday after the Volunteers dropped their season opener on Nov. 12 to the Musketeers. Jarnell Stokes posted his 20th career double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

UTEP held Tennessee to 28.1 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes and took the lead for good with a half-ending 17-8 surge that gave them a 36-28 advantage. The lead swelled to 15 points after intermission as the Volunteers converted only one field goal over the first 6:49.

After falling behind by as many as 15 points, Tennessee used a 16-6 surge – including 11 points from McRae – to close within 67-61 at the 2:35 mark. Crosgile stopped the run with five straight points and Moore followed with four consecutive free throws to re-establish a double-digit margin.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McRae has scored at least 18 points in every game. … Moore, who sat out Saturday’s loss to New Mexico State due to a concussion, has led the team in scoring in each of the last two games. …Tennessee, which outrebounded UTEP 46-28, had as many offensive rebounds in the first half (15) as the Miners had total boards.
