USC 79, Washington State 68: Byron Wesley tied a career high with 31 points as the visiting Trojans snapped their 10-game losing streak with a dominant second-half performance.

Wesley shot 10-of-17 from the field and collected 10 rebounds for USC (11-19, 2-15 Pac-12), which won for the second time in its last 17 games and moved into a tie for 11th place in the conference. Pe’Shon Howard, Omar Oraby, J.T. Terrell and D.J. Haley each added eight points to help the Trojans post their first win in Pullman since 2009.

DaVonte Lacy led Washington State (9-20, 2-15) with 20 points on 5-of-19 shooting, including 3-of-14 from 3-point range. Que Johnson scored 13 points and Royce Woolridge chipped in 12 while D.J. Shelton had 11 points and 11 boards for the Cougars, who have lost eight straight and 12 of their last 13.

Washington State led 36-35 at intermission and opened the second half with eight straight points before USC answered with a 16-2 run. Lacy briefly stemmed the tide with two free throws before the Trojans resumed the second-half barrage with a decisive 19-5 run to pull ahead 70-53 with just under six minutes remaining.

The Trojans shot 50.9 percent from the field and won the battle of the boards 40-34 after being outrebounded in each of their previous four games. Julian Jacobs had seven points, seven rebounds and nine assists for USC, which held the Cougars to 36.5 percent shooting.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Shelton missed all four of his 3-point shots and is 0-for-14 from beyond the arc over the last two games. … Washington State will enter next week’s Pac-12 tournament as the No. 12 seed unless the Cougars upset second-place UCLA this Saturday. … Wesley scored 20 of his 31 points in the second half for USC, which improved to 8-0 when holding its opponent under 70 points.
