No. 17 Creighton 68, Butler 63: Doug McDermott hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 47.8 seconds left to cap a 26-point effort as the Bluejays slipped past the host Bulldogs in Big East play.

Will Artino added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Creighton (20-4, 10-2) in a victory that makes Bluejays coach Greg McDermott the second-fastest (134 games) to reach 100 wins at the school behind Arthur Schabinger (133). Austin Chatman made four free throws in the final 18 seconds to seal the victory.

Kellen Dunham scored 16 points and Alex Barlow added 13 for Butler (12-13, 2-11), which has lost six of its last seven games. Kameron Woods grabbed 12 rebounds and Andrew Chrabascz added 10 points.

The score was tied at 61 after Chrabascz drained a 3-pointer with 3:59 to play and Khyle Marshall’s basket put the Bulldogs up by two with 1:12 left. McDermott connected on a straightaway 3-pointer with 47.8 seconds left to push the Bluejays ahead and Chatman made two free throws with 18 seconds left and two more after Dunham missed a tying 3-point attempt with three seconds to play.

Creighton led by 10 early in the game and Butler rallied to take a brief 27-26 lead on a 3-pointer by Dunham with just under five minutes left in the half. The Bluejays led 37-34 at the break but Barlow scored the first five points of the second half to put the Bulldogs ahead.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
McDermott moved into 15th place on the all-time scoring list with 2,824 career points, surpassing former Tennessee standout Allan Houston (2,801) and U.S. International scoring machine Kevin Bradshaw (2,804). … Butler collected 14 offensive rebounds while holding a 32-30 edge on the boards. … Bluejays F Ethan Wragge (82 3-pointers) missed all four of his attempts from behind the arc and scored just three points.
