No. 5 Villanova 94, Marquette 85 (OT): James Bell scored six of his career-high 30 points in overtime as the visiting Wildcats recovered after a stunning comeback by the Golden Eagles late in regulation.

Bell made 9-of-18 shots from the field and also knocked down four 3-pointers, as did backcourt mate Darrun Hilliard (20 points). Ryan Arcidiacono added 20 points and 11 assists for Villanova (17-2, 6-1 Big East), which also received 12 points and eight rebounds from JayVaughn Pinkston.

After allowing Creighton to hit a Big East-record 21 3-pointers in a 28-point loss on Monday, Villanova limited Marquette to 2-of-11 from long range, although one of those 3s was a corner shot by Todd Mayo that helped the Golden Eagles rally from a six-point deficit with under a minute left in regulation. Mayo scored the final 10 points in regulation for the Golden Eagles and finished with 18, while Davante Gardner paced Marquette (11-9, 3-4) with 29 points and 13 boards.

The Wildcats missed five free throws in the final 80 seconds of regulation - including two misses by Bell - as Mayo made a layup, a jumper, a 3-pointer and finally three game-tying free throws after he was fouled from well beyond the arc with 4.8 seconds to play. Villanova appeared to have won the game on its final possession before overtime, but Tony Chennault was called for a charge as his layup rolled in at the buzzer, although replays proved that defender Steve Taylor Jr. was actually in the restricted area.

The Wildcats scored nine of the first 11 points in overtime, including a three-point play by Pinkston, and a jumper and two foul shots by Arcidiacono. Bell added a layup and four foul shots down the stretch to help seal the victory for Villanova.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bell's previous career high was 25 points - set against Saint Joseph's on Dec. 7 and matched three weeks later against No. 2 Syracuse. ... Bell had 15 points at halftime and Hilliard had nine as the Wildcats led 38-31 at the break. ... Jamil Wilson had 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for Marquette, which had won 20 straight home games in conference play.
