DePaul 77, St. John's 75: Billy Garrett Jr. led a balanced attack with 21 points as the host Blue Demons kept the Red Storm winless in Big East play.

Brandon Young scored 19 points and Cleveland Melvin had 16 points, seven rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots for DePaul (10-8, 2-3 Big East). Tommy Hamilton IV chipped in 13 points as the Blue Demons snapped an eight-game skid against the Red Storm.

D'Angelo Harrison, who was cleared of a concussion earlier in the day, led St. John's (9-7, 0-4) with 24 points. Rysheed Jordan had 16 and Orlando Sanchez 11 for the Red Storm, who made their first seven 3-pointers before missing the final seven.

Harrison had two straight baskets to give his team a 74-70 lead with just over four minutes remaining but St. John's would produce just one free throw the rest of the way. Melvin sandwiched two free throws and a layup around a basket by Garrett and the Red Storm missed four 3-pointers in the final two minutes to fall short.

St. John's hit all five of its attempts from beyond the arc in the opening half, including one by Max Hooper in the final minute to help create a 38-38 tie at the break. It remained tied five minutes into the second half before DePaul put forth a 7-0 run that included a five-point possession due to a technical foul, as well as the Red Storm's first miss from 3-point distance.
