No. 10 Villanova 74, St. John's 67: JayVaughn Pinkston registered 15 points and 10 rebounds as one of five Wildcats in double figures, leading the visitors to a win over the Red Storm in Big East play.

Josh Hart contributed 14 points off the bench for the Wildcats (15-1, 4-0), who have rolled off four straight wins after a Dec. 28 loss to second-ranked Syracuse to kick off their conference schedule. Ryan Arcidiacono scored 13 points, including 3-of-4 3-pointers and Daniel Ochefu and Darrun Hilliard II added 10 points apiece.

D'Angelo Harrison led all scorers with 22 points for St. John's (9-6, 0-3). Rysheed Jordan pitched in 12 points and Jakarr Sampson collected 10 points and nine rebounds for the Red Storm, who have lost their first three conference games for the first time in four years.

Villanova jumped out to 12-6 lead early in the first half before St. John's used a 14-3 run, led by six points from Harrison, to pull ahead 20-15. After the Wildcats ran off seven unanswered points to regain the lead, neither side would see more than a three-point advantage before halftime and a jumper from Jamal Branch, as part of a late 7-2 spurt, sent the Red Storm into the locker room with a 33-31 lead.

It would remain a one-possession game for more than 14 minutes into the second half before a 10-1 run gave Villanova its largest lead of the game at 65-57 with just over three minutes remaining. St. John's wasn't able to chip away from there, missing nine of its 11 attempts from the field over the final seven minutes as Hart iced the game for the Wildcats with five points in the final 46 seconds.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After connecting on 26-of-49 attempts from 3-point range in its previous two games, Villanova drained only 5-of-16 from beyond the arc. ... St. John's has seven straight losses against teams ranked in the top 10. ... The Wildcats controlled the boards, outrebounding the Red Storm 46-38.
