George Washington 71, Miami (Fla.) 63 (OT): Nemanja Mikic scored a game-high 16 points and Maurice Creek added 15 as the Colonials dominated the overtime period in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, Calif.

Isaiah Armwood collected 12 points and 11 rebounds for George Washington, which outscored the Hurricanes 12-4 in overtime and improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2005-06. The Colonials, who led by as many as 12 midway through the second half, will face Marquette in Friday’s second round.

Garrius Adams scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Miami (3-3), which plays in Friday’s consolation round against Cal State Fullerton. Rion Brown added 16 points and James Kelly had 11 for the Hurricanes, who lost for the second time in three overtime games this season.

Miami made eight straight free throws during a 12-4 run and led 59-56 with 1:15 to play before Creek converted one of two free throws and Joe McDonald scored on a layup with six seconds remaining to force the extra period. McDonald finished with 10 points and five rebounds, while Kethan Savage chipped in with 11 points.

Donnavan Kirk grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for Miami, which made its only field goal in overtime with 30 seconds remaining. McDonald opened the extra period with a 3-pointer and Armwood scored on a dunk before George Washington took control on Creek's 3-pointer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: George Washington did not attempt any free throws in the first half and finished 5-of-9 from the foul line. … The Colonials opened the second half on an 11-2 run and led 47-35 with 10:47 remaining. … Miami missed 11 of its 17 shots from 3-point range and fell to 4-4 in overtime games under coach Jim Larrañaga.
