St. John's 65, Longwood 47: D'Angelo Harrison scored 18 points as the Red Storm overcame another poor offensive showing in a home victory over the Lancers.

The Red Storm (4-1) entered the day ranked 260th in the nation in points per game (69.8), having scored increasingly fewer points in all four of its contests (75, 73, 67 and 64). They shot only 37.3 percent in this one, including 3-of-19 from 3-point range, although Sir'Dominic Pointer provided a much-needed - and accurate - spark off the bench with 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting.

Fortunately for St. John's, its defense continues to be superb as evidenced by its 15 blocked shots - led by Chris Obekpa's six - and its 17 forced turnovers, including a pair of steals by Rysheed Jordan. Jeylani Dublin scored 16 points and Lucas Woodhouse had 10 points - as well as five turnovers - for Longwood (2-4), which shot only 33.9 percent and attempted just nine free throws.

Longwood scored the game's first seven points and led by a point with just over two minutes left in the half before Jordan made a couple of baskets and Jamal Branch converted a late layup to put St. John's ahead 27-23 at intermission. The Red Storm led 30-27 early in the second half when Harrison's 3-pointer ignited a 10-0 run that was punctuated by back-to-back dunks from God'sgift Achiuwa and Pointer - both baskets off assists from Jordan.

Damarion Geter's layup drew the Lancers within 44-37 with 8:47 to play, but a basket by JaKarr Sampson and four straight points from Harrison restored order. Harrison finished 6-of-19 from the field, while Sampson was 1-of-8 and Jordan went 2-of-7 from the floor.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dublin scored all but three of the Lancers' bench points. ... The Red Storm held a 46-33 advantage on the glass as Sampson led the way with a season-high 11 rebounds. ... Achiuwa, Sampson and Orlando Sanchez added two blocks apiece.
