Villanova 90, Mount St. Mary’s 59: JayVaughn Pinkston, Darrun Hilliard and Josh Hart combined for 56 points on 72.7 percent shooting to lift the host Wildcats past the Mountaineers.

Pinkston, the leading returning scorer for the Wildcats (2-0), contributed a game-high 21 points, while Hilliard made 8-of-10 shots en route to 18 points. Hart, a freshman guard from Washington D.C., scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting and also contributed 11 rebounds.

Julian Norfleet led Mount St. Mary’s (0-2) with 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half. Sam Prescott chipped in 13 points and Rashad Whack added 10, although the trio combined to shoot just 11-of-37 from the field.

Mount St. Mary’s held an early 8-7 lead before Villanova embarked on a 16-0 run, capped by Hilliard’s three-point play. Several minutes later, the Wildcats turned a 35-19 game into a full-fledged rout with a 17-6 run that spanned both halves, with six different players accounting for the offense during the surge.

Villanova’s defense also had its moments in this one, as the Wildcats held Mount St. Mary’s without a two-point field goal for the final 16:26 of the game. In all, the Wildcats limited the Mountaineers to 29.8 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers.
