No. 24 UNLV 84, CSU Bakersfield 63: Freshman Anthony Bennett scored a season-high 28 points and the Rebels concluded non-conference play with a dominant victory over the visiting Roadrunners.

Bennett was 10-of-13 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for UNLV (13-2), which shot 50.9 percent from the field and 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from 3-point range. Bennett, who was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, entered the game as the nation’s leading freshman scorer at 19.4 points.

Stephon Carter led CSU Bakersfield (6-12) with 16 points and six boards, while Javonte Maynor scored 14 and Adam Young and Brandon Barnes added 12 apiece. The Roadrunners had no answer for Bennett, who had 16 points in the first eight minutes.

Bryce Dejean-Jones scored 12 points and Quintrell Thomas had 10 for UNLV, which led by 12 at halftime and extended its lead to 68-46 on Anthony Marshall’s layup with 7:31 remaining.

The Rebels, who won their second straight since falling 79-73 at North Carolina on Dec. 29, outrebounded CSU Bakersfield by 13 and held the Roadrunners to 38.6 percent shooting. UNLV opens Mountain West play at New Mexico on Wednesday.
