Kemba Walker scored 22 points and added seven assists and six rebounds as No. 9 Connecticut pulled away late for a 75-57 victory over Providence in Storrs on Sunday.

Jamal Coombs-McDaniel scored a career-high 25 points off the bench for the Huskies (19-5, 7-5 Big East), who joined a group of three other teams in a tie for fifth place in the Big East.

Big East leading scorer Marshon Brooks scored 25 points for the Friars (14-11, 3-9), who have yet to win a conference game on the road this season.

Brooks got the better of Walker - 13 points to eight - in the first half but Connecticut still took a 33-30 lead into the break thanks to a 7-0 run to end the period. Coombs-McDaniel capped the surge by converting a three-point play and took a team-high 12 points into the locker room.

Providence kept it close for the early part of the second until the Huskies used a 14-3 burst to push the lead to 55-44 midway through the period.

The Friars cut it to single digits again on Brooks’ free throws with 5:15 left but Walker found Coombs-McDaniel for a layup and then got an offensive rebound and knocked down a 3-pointer that bounced high up off the rim before splashing through to make it 68-55 with 3:48 left.
