Wildens Leveque tied his career-high with 14 points, including six straight late in the second half, to help South Carolina to an 80-67 win over visiting Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at Columbia, S.C.

With the Gamecocks leading 59-51 and the Hoyas making a push, Leveque produced back-to-back scores to put South Carolina up 63-51 with 7:08 left.

Then he made a layup over a minute later to help South Carolina (6-2) win in its first meeting against a major opponent.

Keyshawn Bryant had 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks off the bench for South Carolina, while James Reese V had 11 points. Jacobi Wright had eight points, six rebounds and six assists for the Gamecocks, who had 42 points in the paint.

Donald Carey tallied 20 points and seven rebounds for Georgetown (3-4), which lost for the third time in four games. Aminu Mohammed had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Hoyas, while Dante Harris added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Gamecocks raced out to a 7-0 lead in the game's first 2:53, but Mohammed drove the lane and delivered a thunderous slam less than two minutes later for the Hoyas' first points. Georgetown connected on only one of their first 13 attempts from the floor.

Capped by Malcolm Wilson's dunk from a pass by Harris after a scramble for a loose ball at midcourt, the Hoyas went on a 12-2 run in a span of 3:53 to trim the deficit to 25-23.

A jumper by Wright and a floating layup by AJ Wilson left South Carolina up 36-27 at the half. The Gamecocks held the Hoyas to just 22 percent shooting (9 of 41) from the field in the opening half, including only three made three-pointers on 15 tries.

On a dunk by Wilson off Erik Stevenson's pass, South Carolina pushed its advantage to 41-27 with 18:16 remaining

Harris - the Hoyas' leading scorer at 14.2 points per game - injured his right leg with 11:23 left but eventually returned to the game.
