Andre Kelly broke a late tie with a layup and Grant Anticevich dropped in consecutive hoops to complete a six-point run that allowed California to separate from visiting Santa Clara en route to a 72-60 non-conference victory Saturday night in Berkeley, Calif.

Kelly led three Golden Bears in double figures with a game-high 18 points as Cal (6-5) denied Santa Clara (7-4) an opportunity to sweep the San Francisco Bay Area's two Pacific-12 Conference schools in the same season for the first time since 1969.

Keshawn Justice had a team-high 13 points for the Broncos, who had beaten Stanford 88-72 in November.

Seeking its first true road win of the season, Santa Clara led by as many as 11 points in the first half before Cal finished the period on a 16-1 run to grab a 38-34 halftime advantage. Makale Foreman (five) and Jordan Shepherd (four) combined for nine of the points in the game-changing flurry.

PJ Pipes drew Santa Clara even one final time at 53-all on a layup with 5:45 remaining before Kelly ignited the Golden Bears' fast finish.

The Broncos got as close as four on one occasion and five on another, but Kelly hit two consecutive hoops to stall one run and Shepherd bombed in a 3-pointer with 1:43 remaining to open a 66-58 advantage.

Kelly hit eight of his 11 shots for Cal, which outshot the visitors 46.8 percent to 40.7 percent.

Shepherd finished with 15 points to go with a game-high six assists, while Grant Anticevich tied Kelly for team-high rebound honors with eight to complement 12 points for the Golden Bears, who have won four of five after a 2-4 start.

Justice connected on three 3-pointers for the Broncos, who outscored the Golden Bears 18-12 from beyond the arc. He also found time for a game-high nine rebounds.

Giordan Williams, who had three 3-pointers in Santa Clara's fast start, added 11 points for the Broncos, while Jalen Williams went for 12 points.
