North Carolina State freshman Shakeel Moore scored 19 points off the bench and the visiting Wolfpack whipped undermanned Boston College 81-65 on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
D.J. Funderburk and Manny Bates both added 14 points for NC State (8-7, 4-6 Atlantic Coast Conference), which won for just the second time since December. Jericole Hellems supplied 11 points.
The score was 37-8 after 15 minutes.
Boston College (3-11, 1-7), which ended a three-week layoff during which five games were postponed, returned to action with a depleted roster because numerous players were under COVID-19 protocols.
Jay Heath poured in 20 points to lead the Eagles. Steffon Mitchell had 14 points, CJ Felder scored 12 and Rich Kelly added 11. Boston College didn't receive any points from any player used in a reserve role until the final 70 seconds when Andrew Kenny connected on a pair of 3-point shots.
NC State, which entered the weekend leading the ACC by forcing 16.6 turnovers per game, benefitted from just 15 Boston College giveaways.
Moore shot 8-for-12 from the floor, including making 3 of 4 attempts from beyond the arc, and Funderburk hit five of eight shots from the field. Bates and Funderburk both had seven rebounds.
NC State, which led 44-24 at halftime, produced a 33-3 stretch that lasted nearly 11 minutes of game time. The Eagles outscored the Wolfpack 11-2 to close the first half.
Boston College shot 39 percent from the field for the game. The Eagles were 9-for-34 on 3-pointers, attempting more than half of their 59 shots from beyond the arc.
Hellems led the Wolfpack in scoring in both previous games since NC State lost team scoring leader Devon Daniels to a season-ending knee injury Jan. 27. Hellems attempted just nine shots Saturday.
NC State also defeated the Eagles on Dec. 30, winning 79-76 at home. The Wolfpack won only once since then until Saturday.
