Obi Toppin scored 24 points, and Dayton advanced to the championship game of the Maui Invitational with an 89-62 win on Tuesday over Virginia Tech in Lahaina, Hawaii.

Dayton faces No. 4 Kansas in the final on Wednesday. Virginia Tech draws BYU in the third-place game.

The Flyers (5-0) led almost wire-to-wire and by as many as 28 points to hand the Hokies their first loss of the season. A 17-3 run to close the first half gave Dayton a cushion Virginia Tech could never cut below 14 points.

Toppin played his second stellar game of the Maui Invitational, following up a 25-point effort in Monday's 80-61 blowout of Georgia with a 10-of-14 shooting performance from the floor on Tuesday.

Toppin's dominance on the interior paced Dayton to a 48-24 advantage for points in the paint. The Flyers also scored 11 points on eight offensive rebounds.

Dayton posted a 38-21 advantage overall on the glass, led by Toppin's eight rebounds. Trey Landers, who scored 13 points, also grabbed six rebounds for the Flyers.

Virginia Tech (6-1) sank No. 3-ranked Michigan State in Monday's opening round with a hot 3-point shooting offense. The Hokies knocked down 8 of 21 on Tuesday, but their struggles shooting from inside the arc and at the free-throw line proved too much to overcome.

Virginia Tech went just 22 of 51 from the floor (43.1 percent) and 10 of 18 at the foul line (55.6 percent).

Landers Nolley II led the Hokies with 15 points and six rebounds. Hunter Cattoor scored all 12 of his points from behind the 3-point line.

Dayton, meanwhile, shot a torrid 63.6 percent from the field, including 11 of 24 from 3-point range. Toppin and Rodney Chatman both shot 3-for-5 from deep to set the pace. Chatman finished with 13 points.

Jalen Crutcher scored all six of his points from behind the 3-point line. He also dished a game-high nine assists. Ryan Mikesell scored 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field.
