Obi Toppin scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the No. 7 Dayton Flyers held on for a 73-69 win over the host Duquesne Dukes on Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

The Dukes erased a 19-point, second-half deficit and trailed 71-69 after Marcus Weathers made 1 of 2 free throws with 33 seconds left.

Toppin was fouled and made two free throws with 15 seconds left to ice the game for the Flyers (19-2, 8-0 Atlantic 10 Conference).

Jalen Crutcher recorded 18 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Flyers while Trey Landers added 12 points.

Michael Hughes led the Dukes (15-5, 5-3) with 19 points off the bench. Weathers added 17 points and eight rebounds and Sincere Carry scored 11 points.

Crutcher's jumper and a dunk by Toppin gave the Flyers the early lead.

Carry's 3-pointer and free throw tied the score at 4-all. Landers connected on a 3, then Dayton never gave up the lead. The Dukes stayed close, though, and trailed just 20-19 after a layup by Lamar Norman Jr.

Dayton then went on a 9-0 run to take a double-digit lead at 29-19.

Crutcher connected on a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left before halftime to give the Flyers a 38-30 advantage at intermission. Dayton shot 64 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes while holding the Dukes to just 36.7 percent.

The Flyers took off in the second half and opened up a 55-36 lead on a dunk by Toppin with 13:11 left.

But Duquesne still had plenty of fight as it went on a 17-4 run to cut the deficit to 59-53 on two free throws by Hughes. A dunk by Weathers got the Dukes within four at 61-57.

Two Toppin layups and a 3-pointer by Landers pushed the lead back to 71-60 with a layup and free throw. Hughes and Weathers combined to score the next nine points and the Dukes trailed by just two.
