Breein Tyree scored 20 points and his teammates played strong perimeter defense as the Ole Miss Rebels defeated the Western Michigan Broncos, 85-58, on Friday night in Oxford, Miss.

Ole Miss (3-0) smothered Western Michigan's offense. The Rebels hounded the Broncos at the 3-point line, limiting Western Michigan (3-1) to 5 of 32 3-point shooting. Ole Miss also forced 19 turnovers, part of a complete defensive performance from coach Kermit Davis' team.

Western Michigan's best sequence of the game came in the first nine and a half minutes. The Broncos jumped out to a 16-8 lead with 10:27 remaining in the first half. That was their only productive portion of the night.

Ole Miss responded with a 16-0 run in the next 4:47 to take a 24-16 lead with 5:40 left in the half. The Rebels maintained that eight-point lead over the remainder of the half to grab a 40-32 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Ole Miss led 52-39 with 15:22 left. Then the Rebels uncorked their second huge run of the game. Over the next six minutes, they did not allow a single made field goal to Western Michigan. Ole Miss produced a 15-2 run for a 67-41 lead with 9:39 remaining. The home team cruised the rest of the way to remain unbeaten on the season.

Tyree, Ole Miss's leading scorer, was helped by teammate Devontae Shuler, who scored 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field. Ole Miss generated offense from many different sources. Five different players scored at least eight points for the Rebels, who finished the game 32 of 61 from the field, just over 52 percent.

By contrast, Western Michigan had only two players who scored at least eight points. Brandon Johnson scored 21, and Michael Flowers scored 14. Johnson was 8 of 12 from the field. The rest of the Broncos were 12 of 47, just over 25 percent.
