Sophomore forward Jairus Hamilton had 16 points and junior forward Steffon Mitchell had a double-double as Boston College dominated in the second half to beat Albany 72-51 on Tuesday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

It was a season high in scoring for both Hamilton and Mitchell (15 points, 13 rebounds) as the Eagles (6-5) outscored the Great Danes 18-5 over the first eight minutes after halftime, reversing a season-long trend. Boston College had been outscored by 64 during the opening eight-minute stretch of the second half in its previous 10 games.

Boston College trailed 31-30 at halftime, failing to hit any field goals in the final 3:08 of the first half. The deficit could have been much worse, but Albany (5-6) missed seven of its last eight shots and went the final 2:15 before the break without scoring.

Freshman guard Jay Heath's 3-pointer with 19:24 left in the second half gave the Eagles a 33-31 lead, and another Heath trey keyed an 11-0 run that made it 46-34 with 14:39 to go.

Heath and senior guard Derryck Thornton, who combined for 35 points in the Eagles' Saturday win at Notre Dame, had only two between them in the first half Tuesday. They finished with 11 and six, respectively, with Heath adding six rebounds and six assists.

Albany made eight of its first 14 shots, starting 5 of 10 from 3-point range, but then went cold and stayed that way. The Great Danes wound up shooting 34.7 percent overall, 24 percent from the perimeter and 11 of 21 from the foul line, having come in making 72.3 percent of their free throws.

They hurt their cause with 20 turnovers, which Boston College converted into 30 points.

Sophomore guard Cameron Healy led Albany with 13 points, but he shot only 4 of 14 from the field, making just 3 of 12 3-point tries. Senior guard Ahmad Clark added 11 points for the Great Danes.
