Kaleb Wesson had 13 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes and four other Ohio State teammates scored in double figures as the No. 18 Buckeyes defeated Massachusetts Lowell, 76-56, in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday.

Ohio State (2-0) led 38-25 at the half when Wesson had 11 points and 11 rebounds, the first Buckeye since Jae'Sean Tate vs. Wisconsin on Feb. 23, 2017, to have a double-double in the first half.

Freshman D.J. Carton also had 13 points, Luther Muhammad 11, and Kyle Young and Alonzo Gaffney 10 for the Buckeyes.

The River Hawks (1-2) continued their ambitious schedule to start the season, playing on the road for the third time since Tuesday, including an 87-74 win at Long Island University on Friday.

In that game, Christian Lutute set a UMass Lowell record with 51 points, bettering the 48 by Hank Brown in 1966.

Lutete didn't score against the Buckeyes until the 14:30 mark of the first half to give the River Hawks a 10-9 lead.

He had nine points. Obadiah Noel led Massachusetts Lowell with 15 points, and Connor Withers had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Massachusetts Lowell graduate guard Josh Gantz from the Columbus suburb of Grove City added six points.

The Buckeyes were unable to pull away early because they missed their first six free throws until Wesson made a pair with 9:37 left in the first half for an 18-13 lead.

Massachusetts Lowell trailed 18-15 with 9:20 left before the Buckeyes went on their second 7-0 run of the half. Carton later capped the scoring heading into halftime on a 3-pointer with 1:07 left.

Wesson's older brother, senior forward Andre Wesson, did not play after fracturing his right eye socket during the Buckeyes' 64-56 win against Cincinnati on Wednesday. Andre Wesson will also be out when the Buckeyes host No. 10 Villanova on Wednesday.

Massachusetts Lowell plays its first home game Tuesday vs. Massachusetts Boston.
