In a record-setting performance Monday night, No. 2 Virginia cruised past Syracuse 79-53 in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Cavaliers knocked down a school-record-tying 18 3-pointers, which was also the most Syracuse had ever allowed. Virginia took 25 shots from beyond the arc.

Junior Kyle Guy made eight of those treys on just 10 attempts as he scored a game-high 25 points to help Virginia (27-2, 15-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) complete a second-half comeback.

Syracuse (19-11, 10-7) led by two points at halftime but was outscored by 28 in the game's final 20 minutes, falling victim to the Cavaliers' hot shooting and stifling defense.

The Orange managed just 33.3 percent shooting from the floor, including 27 percent in the second half. Tyus Battle, Buddy Boeheim and Elijah Hughes led Syracuse with 11 points apiece.

Ty Jerome complemented Guy's performance with 16 points and 14 assists while sophomore De'Andre Hunter asserted himself after the game's first five minutes and scored 21 points. Jerome and Hunter both knocked down five 3-pointers.

Virginia made only two 2-point field goals in the first half while hitting eight shots from beyond the arc. Careless turnovers led to points on the other end for Syracuse, and the Orange led 34-32 at the half.

Hunter, Jerome and Guy scored 30 of Virginia's 32 points in the first half with each player putting in 10 points apiece.

Syracuse shot 38 percent in the half with Hughes and Frank Howard scoring six points apiece.

After allowing eight offensive rebounds in the first half, Virginia cleaned up the boards and outrebounded Syracuse 35-33 for the game. The Cavaliers turned the ball over 11 times but assisted on 21 of their 28 field goals.

Virginia will close out its regular season at home on Saturday against Louisville, with a win wrapping up at least a tie for the ACC regular-season title. North Carolina (24-5, 14-2) is a half-game behind the Cavaliers heading into its final two games.

Syracuse will travel to oppose Clemson on Saturday.
