Junior forward Rui Hachimura had 22 points and seven rebounds, and No. 3 Gonzaga pulled away late to post a 73-60 victory over host Loyola Marymount on Thursday night in West Coast Conference play at Los Angeles.
Junior power forward Brandon Clarke recorded 17 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots as the Bulldogs (24-2, 11-0 WCC) won their 15th consecutive game. Sophomore guard Zach Norvell Jr. added 13 points as Gonzaga defeated Loyola Marymount for the 21st straight time.
The 13-point margin matches Gonzaga's lowest in its 11 WCC games this season. The Bulldogs also have won 29 consecutive conference road games.
Freshman forward Dameane Douglas scored 13 points and senior guard James Batemon added 12 for the Lions (17-9, 5-7). Junior center Mattias Markusson and sophomore forward Eli Scott tallied 11 points apiece, and senior forward Petr Herman had 10 for Loyola Marymount.
The Lions made just 1 of 14 attempts from 3-point range and shot 37.9 percent from the floor overall while falling to 10-3 at home.
Gonzaga shot 63.6 percent in the second half to finish at 46 percent. The Bulldogs wound up 6 of 19 from 3-point range.
Loyola Marymount took its lone lead of the second half at 54-53 on a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Joe Quintana with 8:45 remaining before the Bulldogs took over.
Senior point guard Josh Perkins hit two free throws to put Gonzaga back ahead to start a 16-4 run. Hachimura drove through the defense for a layup with 4:19 left and converted another layup 39 seconds later to give the Bulldogs a 66-58 edge with 3:40 remaining.
Norvell buried a 3-pointer to make it an 11-point margin with 2:20 remaining as Gonzaga closed it out.
Perkins and sophomore forward Corey Kispert drained back-to-back 3-pointers to start the second half, giving the Bulldogs a 38-31 lead.
The Lions fought back as Herman scored consecutive inside baskets to cut Gonzaga's lead to 44-43 with 13:35 left.
Clarke later scored five straight points to give the Bulldogs a 53-47 advantage with 11:32 remaining. Douglas answered with back-to-back baskets, and Quintana knocked down the 3-pointer to give Loyola Marymount the one-point edge.
Gonzaga led 32-31 at the break despite shooting just 32.1 percent from the field. Hachimura had 10 first-half points. Markusson scored 11 for the Lions before intermission.
