Kelan Martin and Kamar Baldwin combined for 51 points to power No. 10 seed Butler past No. 7 seed Arkansas 79-62 Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's East Region in Detroit.

Martin, a senior forward, scored 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Baldwin, a sophomore guard, contributed 24 points, hitting 9 of 17 shots. Martin, Baldwin and Tyler Wideman all had nine rebounds for Butler.

The Bulldogs were helped by a 45-25 rebounding advantage. The Bulldogs shot 49.2 percent while the Razorbacks hit 35.7 percent.

Butler (21-13) will meet No. 2 seed Purdue (29-6) in the second round on Sunday. Purdue 7-foot-2 center Isaac Haas suffered a fractured right elbow in Friday's rout of Cal State Fullerton. The Boilermakers beat the Bulldogs 82-67 Dec. 16 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Senior guard Jaylen Barford led Arkansas (23-12) with 15 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Fellow senior guard Daryl Macon added 12 points on 3-of-10 shooting for Arkansas

The Bulldogs built a five-point halftime lead to 46-36 in the first three minutes of the second half.

With Butler leading 53-40, the Razorbacks scored seven unanswered points to close the gap, Martin's 3-pointer gave the Bulldogs a 56-47 lead and they were able to maintain a comfortable advantage the rest of the way.

In a wild first half of spurts by both teams, Butler led 36-31 at halftime. Martin led the Bulldogs with 10 points.

The Bulldogs hit 8 of 11 shots, including 4 of 5 3-pointers, to take a 21-2 lead. Butler scored 18 unanswered points.

Following a timeout. the Razorbacks followed with a 10-0 run to narrow the deficit to 21-12.

Butler rebuilt the lead to 27-13 before Arkansas responded with a 16-0 spurt to grab a 29-27 advantage, Butler missed all nine shots during that stretch.

The Bulldogs finished the half with a 9-2 run.

After starting missing 10 of its first 11 shots from the field, the Razorbacks finished 10 of 28 (35.7 percent) shooting in the first half. The Bulldogs cooled off to 41.2 percent (41.2 percent).
