STILLWATER, Okla. -- Jawun Evans scored a game-high 25 points on Wednesday night, sending the sluggish Cowboys past Rogers State 101-85 at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

After returning from a third-place finish at the Maui Invitational, Oklahoma State started slow before breaking free to improve to 6-1.

The game was tied 25-25 with 7:34 left in the first half, when Evans ignited a run, scoring 15 of his 17 first-half points. Evans finished with a game-high 25 points, five steals, four assists and four rebounds.

Jeylyn Sharpe led Rogers State, a Division II program located in Claremore, Okla., with 18 points.

Along with Evans, the Cowboys had six other players score in double figures, including Evans' backup at point guard, Brandon Averette, who added 15 points.

Oklahoma State scheduled Rogers State as a good-neighbor deal, aiding the cross-state, lower-level program with an opportunity against a Big 12 squad.

Oklahoma State started neighborly, too, lacking energy early on both ends of the floor. Rogers State took advantage, leading 6-2, 11-7 and 13-10, prompting Cowboys coach Brad Underwood to replace all five starters with 14:52 left in the first half.

Rogers State, the defending champion of the Heartland Conference, hung around for most of the first half, too. It was tied 25-25 with 7:34 remaining in the half, with the Cowboys shooting just 30 percent from the floor.

Oklahoma State finally used a surge to open an 11-point lead, 41-30, as Evans went for 11 points to ignite a 16-5 run. The Cowboys carried a 52-44 lead to intermission despite shooting 42 percent from the field for the half.

Evans led the way with 17 points.

Rogers State shot 53 percent from the floor in the opening half, getting 13 points from Sharpe.
