It was the Quinndary Weatherspoon show on Thursday night in Starkville, Miss.

Mississippi State's leading scorer had 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists as the Bulldogs (9-3) routed Missouri-Kansas City (7-8), 77-54, at Humphrey Coliseum.

Weatherspoon had five 3-pointers and was 9-for-15 from the field.

A 12-0 Mississippi State run midway through the second half blew the game open and gave the Bulldogs their biggest lead at 66-39. Mario Kegler had seven of his eight points, including a 4-point play, during the run.

Tyson Carter had 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Kyle Steward led UNKC with 15 points, and LaVell Boyd added 14, but the two were a combined 7-for-27 from the field.

Mississippi State shot 50 percent from the field and made 11 of 23 from 3-point range, but struggled from the line, going 8-for-18. The Bulldogs had 15 assists to the Kangaroos' seven.

Mississippi State jumped out to a 16-4 lead, while holding UMKC to 1-for-10 shooting over the game's first eight minutes.

The Bulldogs shot 53.3 percent from the field in the first half, led by Weatherspoon, who nearly equaled his season average (18.4 points per game) with 18 points. Weatherspoon made six of his nine first-half shots and was 4-for-6 from 3-point range.

Mississippi State held the Kangaroos to 32 percent shooting and won the rebound battle, 23-14, as they held a 44-28 advantage at the break.

Mississippi State has now won six of seven as they enter Southeastern Conference play. The Bulldogs host Alabama on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, UMKC has lost six of seven since a 6-2 start to the season. Their only December win came against Division II William Jewell. The Kangaroos host South Carolina-Upstate on Monday before their first Western Athletic Conference game Jan. 5 against New Mexico State.
