TCU went 7 of 9 from the free-throw line in the final 1:32 to defeat Texas Tech 67-62 in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship. The Horned Frogs play second-seeded and No. 9-ranked West Virginia in the third game of Thursday's quarterfinals.

Guard Malique Trent's layup and subsequent free throw gave TCU a 5-point lead with 34 seconds left, and Texas Tech could not catch up.

TCU (12-20) was led by guard Chauncey Collins with 19 points. Brandon Parrish added 15 points. Forward Vladimir Brodziansky had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Trent also had 10 points.

Texas Tech (19-12) was led by forwards Justin Gray and Zach Smith with 13 points each. Smith also had 15 rebounds. Norense Odiase added 10 points for the Red Raiders.

The second half started very similarly to the first. Texas Tech scored the first five points of the half to assume a 6-point lead. TCU responded again, this time with a 13-0 run, to grab its biggest lead of the game at 43-36. But Tech responded to tie the score at 45-all at the 11:07 mark.

There were then six lead changes and six ties before both teams went from the 4:24 mark until 1:32 remained without scoring. Parrish finally hit two free throws to give TCU a 58-56 lead. Smith answered with a layup to tie the score again.

TCU spotted Tech a quick 7-0 lead then ran off a 15-4 run to take a 4-point lead. Neither team led by more than that the rest of the half, and Texas Tech went to the half up 31-30 on a baseline jumper by Zach Smith just before the halftime buzzer.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half. TCU was 10 of 24 (41.7 percent), while the Red Raiders were 12 of 35 (34.3 percent). Collins led all scorers with 16 points. Texas Tech was led by Gray with 10 points. Smith also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Red Raiders.
