No. 16 Iowa was reeling after enduring a four-game losing streak and was looking for a win to restore its cache heading into the postseason.

The Hawkeyes pulled out of the late-season skid on Saturday night with a 71-61 victory over Michigan in a Big Ten game at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Senior forward Jarrod Uthoff was the catalyst with 29 points as Iowa seized control early and turned back Michigan.

“We came out cooking," Uthoff said. "We came out aggressive, and that was our game plan -- to be the aggressor. The last couple games, we haven't been the aggressor. We haven't been pushing the pace. We got back to our good ways."

Uthoff, named earlier in the day as one of 15 national finalists for the Wooden Award, made 11 of 19 shots from the field, including 4 of 10 from 3-point range. He added seven rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.

"He was a big difference," Michigan coach John Beilein said. "We couldn't stop him."

After struggling in recent weeks with 32.7 percent shooting from the field, Uthoff regained his touch, hitting deep 3-pointers and clutch shots.

"When he's playing like that, it changes everything for us," Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said.

Anthony Clemmons scored 12 points, Peter Jok had 10 points, Adam Woodbury collected 11 rebounds and Mike Gesell contributed 11 assists for Iowa.

The Hawkeyes had limped to the end of the Big Ten regular season. In first place halfway through the conference schedule, Iowa nose-dived and finished with a 21-9 overall record and 12-6 in Big Ten play.

Michigan (20-11, 10-8) was led by Derrick Walton Jr. with 14 points and six assists. Zak Irvin added 11 points and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman had 10.

Iowa led all but the opening minute of the first half. The Hawkeyes twice extended their lead to 10 points early before Michigan closed to one at 24-32 on a layup by Abdur-Rahkman with 6:51 left.

Uthoff answered the Wolverines' run with a 3-pointer to make it 27-23. Michigan came back to pull within 30-28 on a 3-pointer by Walton.

Jok hit a 3-pointer with 2:17 left for the final basket of the first half and Iowa went into the locker room with a 36-30 lead.

In the second half, Iowa built a 59-44 lead before Michigan closed to 59-54. Gesell stopped the Wolverines' run with a steal and basket with 4:10 left.

Michigan struggled with its shooting, making just 23 of 64 from the floor for 35.9 percent.

"We did have some open looks and we couldn't hit anything," Beilein said..
