LOUISVILLE, Ky. -– On Friday, No. 19 Louisville self-imposed a one-year postseason ban.

Unfortunately for struggling Boston College, that didn't extend into Saturday's Atlantic Coast Conference beating at KFC Yum! Center.

Overwhelming the Eagles at start and during the game-sealing run in the second half, the Cardinals posted a 79-47 victory.

Guard Trey Lewis, a senior who transferred from Cleveland State with hopes of playing in the NCAA Tournament only to have those quashed on Friday, scored a game-high 16 points for Louisville (19-4, 8-2 in the ACC).

Freshman forward Deng Adel added 13 and reserve guard Donovan Mitchell chipped in with 10 points each for the Cardinals.

Freshman guard Sammy Barnes-Thompkins scored 11 points to pace Boston College (7-16, 0-10), which hasn't been closer than 10 points in any of its ACC losses.

Senior guard Eli Carter, the Eagles' top scorer at 16.8 points per game, made only 1-of-9 shots and finished with two points.

There was a question as to how the Cardinals would respond after dumping No. 2 North Carolina 71-65 on Monday night, and Friday’s happenings only intensified the issue.

Louisville president James Ramsey announced that the school would sit out the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, outraging fans.

One downtown establishment displayed a sign deriding Ramsey. The late-arriving crowd of 21,803 cheered when the players' press conference on Friday was shown on the scoreboard prior to tipoff, and lavished a long ovation when Lewis was announced in the starting lineups.

With that as a backdrop, the Cardinals blitzed Boston College with a 19-2 run to start the game, forcing six turnovers in the Eagles' first 10 possessions and pushing the advantage to 25-6 at the 8:58 mark.

But Boston College managed to make things moderately interesting at the beginning of the second half. After scoring a measly 14 points in the first half, the Eagles matched that total in the first 3:03 after intermission, drawing to within 37-28 on a jumper by forward A.J. Turner.

However, Louisville pulled away with a 12-2 spurt midway through the second half, opening up a 55-35 lead when Lewis canned two free throws.

NOTES: Louisville F Damion Lee (bruised knee), the team's leading scorer at 17 points per game, missed the game. ...
