Georgia guard J.J. Frazier got hot at the right time, helping the Bulldogs fight off No. 25 South Carolina 69-56 on Tuesday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Georgia.

Frazier hit two key 3-pointers in the final minutes to put away South Carolina. He finished with 13 points, and was one of four Bulldogs to reach double figures in scoring.

Sophomore forward Yante Maten continued his breakout season with a game-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Guard Kenny Gaines added 17 points, and guard Charles Mann finished with 11 points to pace the balanced Georgia attack.

Georgia outrebounded South Carolina 44-38 and improved to 10-0 when outrebounding its opponent.

South Carolina guard Sindarius Thornwell led the cold-shooting Gamecocks with 18 points, and forward Michael Carrera finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was the third straight double-double for Carrera, but a frustrating night overall.

Carrera had averaged 23.8 points in his last four games, but was the focus of Georgia's defense and the harassing Bulldogs' home crowd. Carrera was whistled for a technical late in the game.

South Carolina shot 31 percent from the field.

Georgia (12-8, 5-4 SEC) took a 13-11 lead on a 3-pointer from guard E'Torrion Wilridge with 12 minutes left in the first half and would not trail again. The Bulldogs led 33-23 at intermission. South Carolina shot just 21 percent from the floor and turned it over nine times in the first half.

The Gamecocks (19-3, 6-3 SEC) would not go away, though, and mounted multiple challenges in the second half. Georgia always had an answer.

South Carolina guard Duane Notice hit a corner 3-pointer that cut the Georgia lead to 50-48 with 6:34 to play. But Gaines answered with two straight buckets, causing Gamecocks coach Frank Martin to call timeout.

Frazier then hit a pair of 3-pointers from the left corner, the second a heavily contested shot that put Georgia ahead 62-53 with 1:52 to play.

South Carolina, which climbed back into the polls this week, began Tuesday in a second-place tie with Kentucky, behind No. 8 Texas A&M, in the SEC play. The Gamecocks play at A&M on Saturday.
