Guard Wayne Selden scored 18 points and forward Perry Ellis added 15 as No. 4 Kansas overcame a sluggish first half Tuesday to throttle Loyola (Md.) 94-61 at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan.

Selden was coming off a performance at the Maui Invitational that allowed him to share tournament MVP honors with teammate Frank Mason, a guard who added 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals against Loyola.

Kansas (5-1) scored the first 11 points of the second half to take charge 51-36 after Loyola (1-6) tied the game 17 minutes into the first half. The Jayhawks shot 50.7 percent, including 55 percent during a 54-25 second-half blitz.

The game marked the debut of Cheick Diallo, a 6-9 forward whose freshman eligibility was delayed by a lengthy NCAA review. Diallo was finally cleared while the Jayhawks were playing in the Maui Invitational, though the NCAA issued a five-game suspension based on what it deemed illegal benefits received by the McDonald's All-American.

Diallo entered at the 12:51 mark of the first half as the ninth Jayhawk to enter the game.

He managed one rebound, one block and one turnover in six first-half minutes, with two fouls. He did not attempt a shot until the second half, getting a dunk off a behind-the-back feed from Selden with 14:58 remaining.

That jam seemed to unleash Diallo, who finished with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Guard Svi Mykhailiuk, added 10 points for Kansas.

Loyola was led by junior guard Eric Laster with 16 points. Sophomore guard Andre Walker added 10 points. Junior forward Jarred Jones, who had three double-doubles coming in, was held to four points and three rebounds.

Selden and Mason each made 4 of 7 shots in the first half while scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively, and giving Kansas a 40-36 lead at the break.
