La Salle 74, No. 22 VCU 69 (2OT):
Jordan Price posted career highs of 34 points – including 12 in the second overtime – and 18 rebounds as the Explorers sent the Rams to their second straight home defeat.

Jerrell Wright and Cleon Roberts complemented Price’s fourth 30-point game of the season with 12 points apiece for La Salle (14-10, 6-5 Atlantic 10), which has won four of five and avenged last season’s 97-89 double-overtime loss to VCU. Steve Zack scored seven points and grabbed 12 boards – his sixth consecutive double-digit rebounding effort – before fouling out midway through the second overtime.

JeQuan Lewis finished with a career-high 26 points for the Rams (18-6, 8-3), who have dropped three of four to fall into a four-way first-place tie atop the conference with Dayton, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Melvin Johnson added 13 points, Jordan Burgess collected 12 rebounds and Mo Alie-Cox tallied eight points, nine boards and a career-high tying five blocks.

Neither team could build more than a five-point edge in the contest, which was the margin La Salle enjoyed after capping a 12-3 burst on a jumper by Zach midway through the second half. Doug Brooks ended a 7 ½-minute field-goal drought for VCU with a driving layup with 9:46 left and Alie-Cox followed with a jumper just over two minutes later to knot the game at 48.

The Explorers could get only two more field goals over the final 10:14 of regulation, but Price’s 3-pointer with 28.8 seconds left sent the game into overtime after Johnson was unable to hit an off-balance jumper as time expired. Lewis scored all eight of the Rams’ points in the first extra period, but Price stepped up with all of the Explorers’ points in the second overtime – including six free throws over the final 27 seconds – to seal it.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
VCU leading scorer Treveon Graham (high left ankle sprain) was in uniform, but did not play. The Rams also played their third full game without G Briante Weber, who was injured in the Rams’ home loss to Richmond on Jan. 31. … Zack moved past Albert Butts (780; 1981-84) and into sole possession of 11th place on the school’s all-time rebounding list. … VCU fell to 41-10 following a loss under coach Shaka Smart.
