Delaware State 72, Wake Forest 65: Amere May erupted for a career-high 32 points as the visiting Hornets stunned the Demon Deacons.

May knocked down six 3-pointers while Kendall Gray added 14 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocks for Delaware State (3-3), which tightened up defensively after surrendering 225 points over its previous two games. Kendal Williams added nine points while Kavon Walker had seven.

Codi Miller-McIntyre's 15 points paced Wake Forest (4-3), which shot 35.6 percent from the field and 4-of-15 from 3-point range. Cornelius Hudson and Madison Jones chipped in 10 points apiece in defeat.

Delaware State kept things close in an entertaining first half, seizing a 27-24 lead on Gray's layup off a Konstantinos Mitoglou turnover with 8:35 remaining. Mitoglou made amends with four straight points to put the Demon Deacons ahead, and Aaron Rountree III added a transition dunk a short time later as Wake Forest entered the intermission with a 38-36 lead.

Williams gave the Hornets a major boost early in the second half, reeling off seven points during a 10-3 run that gave his team a four-point edge. The lead grew to as many as seven points before the Wake Forest defense helped make a game of it, holding Delaware State scoreless for more than three minutes to close within a point before three-point plays from Gray and May in the final 1:01 put the game away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Delaware State prevailed despite committing 18 turnovers while forcing just eight. ... Wake Forest F Devin Thomas missed all seven of his field-goal attempts to finish scoreless, but had seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. ... May's teammates shot just 2-of-11 from beyond the arc.
