Northwestern 68, Elon 67 (OT): Tre Demps buried the go-ahead jumper with 48 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the host Wildcats over the upset-minded Phoenix in the Cancun Challenge.

Demps, who finished with 21 points, hit his second-game winning shot in a span of three days for Northwestern (4-0) after making a jumper with 2.5 seconds left on Thursday to edge North Florida 69-67. Vic Law had 16 points and Alex Olah pulled down 12 rebounds for the Wildcats, who will head to Mexico for a matchup with Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday.

Tanner Samson had a game-high 24 points on eight 3-pointers and Elijah Bryant chipped in 16 points with six boards for Elon (1-2), which meets Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 30 as part of the tournament. Luke Eddy came off the Phoenix bench to score 10 points.

Northwestern trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Wildcats chipped away at the 19-9 deficit with seven points from Demps and five from Nathan Taphorn to pull within 29-27 at intermission. Elon grew the lead to double digits a second time with a 10-2 spurt coming out of the break, and Samson and Eddy combined for a trio of 3s to create a 49-41 advantage with 10 minutes to go.

The Wildcats weathered the storm well into the second half, using an 8-0 run in the final 3:35 of regulation to tie the game at 61 and force overtime. The Phoneix grabbed hold of a five-point cushion with 2:11 to go in OT after Bryant's layup, but Sanjay Lumpkin countered with his own layup and Law made a pair of free throws before Demps hit the game-winner.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bryant McIntosh had a game-high seven assists for the Wildcats. ... Northwestern only had four offensive rebounds on 28 missed shots. ... Elon fell to 0-5 against Big Ten teams.
