No. 20 Ohio State 92, UMass Lowell 55: D'Angelo Russell scored 16 points in his first collegiate game as the Buckeyes blew out the visiting River Hawks in the season opener.

Sam Thompson and Marc Loving added 14 points apiece and Anthony Lee scored 13 off the bench for Ohio State. Shannon Scott contributed nine points and 11 assists for the Buckeyes, who shot 61.7 percent from the floor.

Jahad Thomas led all scorers for UMass Lowell with 18 points. Lance Crawford was the only other player in double figures for the River Hawks, scoring 11 off the bench.

Thompson made his first four field-goal attempts and scored all 10 of his first-half points to help the Buckeyes surge to a 21-8 lead with 13:49 still left in the opening half. A 3-pointer by Matt Harris was the only field goal by UMass Lowell during a span of 9:19 of the opening half and Ohio State took advantage to stretch its cushion to 20 with 5:44 remaining in the half.

Loving’s 3-pointer with 39 seconds left gave the Buckeyes their biggest lead up to that point at 47-25 and that’s how the score remained heading into the break. Ohio State shot 62.1 percent in the opening 20 minutes and forced 13 of UMass Lowell’s 19 turnovers in that span.
