Seton Hall 64, No. 3 Villanova 63: Sterling Gibbs buried a step-back jumper at the buzzer as the Pirates stunned the top-seeded Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament in New York.

Gibbs got the ball at the top of the key following a timeout and made one move before stepping back and earning the final two of his 10 points to lift No. 8 seed Seton Hall (17-16). Gene Teague recorded 19 points and 12 rebounds and Patrik Auda added 13 points for the Pirates, who will face No. 4 seed Providence in Friday's semifinals.

Josh Hart collected 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench to lead Villanova (28-4), which had a six-game winning streak come to an end. JayVaughn Pinkston and Darrun Hilliard scored 11 points apiece as the Wildcats struggled to 37.9 percent from the floor.

Hilliard’s baseline dunk gave Villanova a 58-57 lead with 1:57 left and Hart finished off a transition layup with 41 seconds remaining to increase the Wildcats’ advantage to 61-59. Jaren Sina buried a 3-pointer from the left corner on the ensuing possession to put Seton Hall back on top but Hilliard responded with a floater in the lane before Gibbs’ heroics.

The Pirates led by as much as 15 points in the first half and enjoyed a 44-31 advantage with just over 14 minutes left before Villanova stormed back into the game with 16 straight points, taking its first lead of the game on Hilliard’s 3-pointer with just over eight minutes left. Fuquan Edwin snapped a scoring drought of more than seven minutes with a tying 3-pointer as Seton Hall battled back to a 55-50 lead with 4:53 left.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Teague and Pinkston were each hit with a flagrant 1 foul after some high elbows early in the second half. … Seton Hall, which knocked off No. 9 seed Butler in Wednesday's opening round, has won two games in the Big East tournament for the first time since 2001. … Villanova G James Bell, who came in leading the team in scoring at 14.9 points, managed three points and went 0-of-8 from the field.
